A single-serving pear mug pie comes together quickly and feels so special when finished with tiny puff pastry stars.

I’m excited to share this recipe using Royal Riviera Pears from Harry and David — they’re sweet, juicy and ideal for baking. I’ve loved these pears since I was a kid, and they’re a favorite to give as gifts because they always get enjoyed.

Harry and David also provided a site-wide discount code: HOWSWEET for 15% off.

A mug pie is the perfect pie-for-one: cozy, perfectly portioned, and quick to make. You can prepare one for yourself on a relaxed night in, or bake several to serve as an easy dessert when friends or family visit.

This version is ideal for anyone who loves pie but doesn’t have time for a whole pie crust. Puff pastry stars add a festive touch with minimal effort — I used a tiny star cutter and a sprinkle of coarse sugar so they’re crisp and pretty.

Top each mug pie with a big scoop of vanilla ice cream and a dusting of cinnamon for the perfect finish.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 1 large egg, lightly beaten
  • 2 tablespoons raw turbinado sugar
  • 4 Harry and David Royal Riviera Pears, peeled and sliced
  • 2 tablespoons unsalted butter
  • 3 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/8 teaspoon salt
  • 1/8 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
  • 1 pinch ground ginger
  • Vanilla ice cream, for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F. Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • Cut the puff pastry into small shapes—stars are lovely. Brush each piece with beaten egg and sprinkle with turbinado sugar.
  • Bake the pastry pieces for 15–20 minutes, until golden and puffed.
  • While the pastry bakes, heat a skillet over medium heat and melt the butter. Add the pear slices and cook 5 minutes until they begin to soften. Stir in the brown sugar, cinnamon, salt, nutmeg and ginger, and cook another 5 minutes until the pears are tender and caramelized.
  • Spoon the warm pears into mugs. Top each with a scoop of vanilla ice cream and a few puff pastry stars. Serve immediately.
