Chewy Peanut Butter Blossom Cookie Bars for Holiday Baking

Peanut butter blossom bars take the classic holiday cookie and turn it into a chewy, sliceable bar. These peanut butter cookie bars are studded with Hershey’s Kisses that soften and meld into the dough for the ultimate peanut butter-chocolate bite. Slice and serve warm or at room temperature.

This is the perfect bar.

These peanut butter blossom bars are essentially everyone’s favorite cookie reimagined as a pan dessert. Chewy peanut butter cookie dough, a slightly sugary crust, and soft, melty chocolate make for a nostalgic and delicious treat.

Why haven’t I made these bars sooner? They keep everything that’s great about a peanut butter blossom — the tender, chewy cookie and the dreamy center — while cutting down on time and fuss.

I love the classic peanut butter-and-chocolate combo, and a chewy peanut butter cookie is one of my favorites. While I don’t always choose a Hershey’s Kiss as my first chocolate pick, there’s something magical about how the Kiss softens and almost becomes truffle-like in the oven. It presses into the cookie, melts just enough, and blends beautifully with the peanut butter.

There’s also the nostalgia factor. Peanut butter blossoms are classic, adorable, and beloved — and transforming them into bars makes them even easier to share.

I’ve used my grandma’s peanut butter blossom recipe for years. To create these bars I scaled that familiar recipe to fit a 9×13-inch pan so you get a smaller batch without losing the classic flavor. The original makes a huge batch of individual cookies; the bar version is a great shortcut when you want less work and the same satisfying results.

These bars are ideal when you want a quick dessert for tonight or a compact batch for a small gathering. No rolling dough into individual balls, no extra mess — just press the dough into the pan, add the chocolate, and bake.

The texture remains chewy and peanut-butter-forward, and you can easily swap the classic Hershey’s Kiss for another variety or even mini peanut butter cups. Chocolate and peanut butter are a dependable pairing, so feel free to adapt the topping to your preference.

Ingredients

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, softened
  • ¾ cups creamy peanut butter
  • ½ cup sugar
  • ½ cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 large eggs
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons sugar, for sprinkling
  • 20 Hershey’s Kisses

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. In a small bowl, whisk together the flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • In the bowl of an electric mixer, beat the butter and peanut butter until creamy and combined.
  • Add the sugars and beat on medium speed until light and fluffy, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the eggs one at a time, beating until each is incorporated. Mix in the vanilla. Beat in the dry ingredients until just combined.
  • Press the dough evenly into a 9×13-inch baking dish. Sprinkle the surface with the 2 tablespoons of sugar. Bake for 20 minutes.
  • After 20 minutes, remove the pan from the oven and press Hershey’s Kisses into the bars in rows, leaving about an inch between each. Press them deep enough so they soften and stay in place as the bars cool. Return to the oven and bake 2 to 4 more minutes.
  • Remove from the oven and allow to cool completely. Slice into bars and serve.
