Blood Orange Tequila Fizz Cocktail Recipe

I’ve been very busy exploring every possible way to enjoy blood oranges.

Extremely busy.

Heads up: the letdown when blood orange season ends is going to be real. I’m not much for ordinary oranges — they’re just… ordinary.

Of all the ways to use them — cakes, breads, salads, salmon — cocktails are my favorite. Given my love for bright, neon colors and everything a little extra, that probably isn’t a surprise.

THE COLOR!

And the flavor. “Deliciousness” might be an overused word, but blood oranges earn it. Their sweet-tart profile and that vibrant hue make drinks feel festive and fresh — and yes, I say the word out loud more than I probably should.

How’s your January going? Are you avoiding alcohol right now for a new-year reset? Resolutions tend to last about as long as momentum does — I vote they weaken by the second weekend of the month. The first weekend you’re determined, the second weekend the cravings get louder: cheese, chocolate, coffee, pizza, cookies, wine — you name it.

We usually skip weekday drinking because life’s busy and we need clarity, but come Thursday I’m ready. Often I don’t indulge until Friday afternoon — it is, after all, happy hour. I’ve also been dreaming of reinstating Margarita Mondays; honestly, it should be a thing.

I rarely make tequila cocktails that aren’t margaritas, though I do love a good Paloma. Eddie isn’t a grapefruit fan and he’s not always into tequila, but a cleverly balanced cocktail with blood orange can win him over.

The Blood Orange Tequila Fizz is one of those drinks. The color is show-stopping, but the flavor is what seals it: not a margarita, even with a touch of lime simple syrup, and finished with ginger ale or ginger beer for a lively fizz. It’s easy to adjust the sweetness to taste, and it might just distract you from that weekend pizza craving.
