Can you believe Memorial Day is almost here? I know I’m often a cliche, but seriously — how did we get to late May already?
I CAN’T BELIEVE IT.

Important things to consider for summer:

What’s your grilling situation? I’m both terrified of the grill and obsessed with grilled food.
Have you picked your signature summer cocktail (or mocktail)?

This isn’t a cocktail — it’s limeade. A mocktail of sorts, but really just classic, bright limeade with fresh mint.
I prefer limeade to lemonade any day. It tastes like summer without making your teeth cringe — which is a major plus.

This limeade is incredibly refreshing. If you’re making it for a crowd, feel free to stretch it with extra water, but the fresh lime flavor is so worth juicing a lot of limes if you can. I have a blueberry limeade recipe I make every summer, and this fresh mint limeade has the same staying-power in my rotation.
I wish I’d added more mint to these photos — the extra bright mint is delightful.
About the limes: yes, it’s a lot of citrus, but the bright, freshly squeezed juice is what makes this shine.

And if you want to make it boozy, tequila or your favorite clear spirit plays very nicely here.

Homemade Mint Limeade

Ingredients
- 2/3 cup water
- 2/3 cup sugar
- 1 big bunch of fresh mint leaves, around 3/4 cup
- 2 1/2 cups freshly squeezed lime juice
- 2 1/2 cups water
- 1/3 cup freshly squeezed lemon juice
- 3 limes, sliced
- a few fresh mint leaves for garnish
- watermelon wedges for serving
- ice for serving
Instructions

To make the mint simple syrup, add the water, sugar and mint leaves to a saucepan and heat over medium heat. Whisk constantly until the sugar dissolves and the mixture comes to a boil. Let it bubble for about a minute, then remove from heat and let cool completely. Strain out the mint leaves before using.

Stir together the cooled mint simple syrup, water, lime juice and lemon juice. Add the sliced limes and extra fresh mint leaves. Refrigerate for at least an hour to let the flavors meld. Stir before serving and pour over ice. Garnish with extra limes, mint and watermelon wedges if desired.
