Summer Fridays Vol. 2 — Summer Style Looks and Picks

summer fridays

I’m so happy you’re as excited as I am about Summer Fridays returning! I can’t get enough of them. Tell me how your weekend is going in the comments below.

EATING

It’s Father’s Day weekend and I’m ready to cook. I’m torn between steak and potato skewers, baby back ribs with root beer BBQ sauce, or smoky blood orange BBQ ribs. I’ll likely add a cool ranch kale salad on the side to round things out.

DRINKING

I’m planning to sip a fresh cherry vodka soda — it’s ridiculously good. I’m also in full s’mores mode, so smoky s’mores root beer floats are a tempting option too.

MAKING

A taco bar for Father’s Day is definitely on the table. It feels like the perfect, casual way to celebrate.

BAKING

I’m still obsessed with strawberries, so this weekend’s dessert will most likely be a fresh strawberry cobbler.

CRAVING

I’ve been daydreaming about lavender vanilla latte ice cream. Nothing beats homemade ice cream, and I can’t stop thinking about that flavor — I expect I’ll be trying more lavender recipes this week.

LISTENING

I’ve been listening to our Father’s Day playlist and hoping it’s Eddie-approved. I also loved Brene Brown’s recent podcast episode with Austin Channing Brown — it’s a thoughtful, powerful conversation.

READING

I’m nearly finished with The Vanishing Half — such a compelling read. Next up is 28 Summers. If you want more recommendations, my summer reading list is available. What are you reading right now?

WEARING

I’ve been living in simple sleeveless dresses — another black dress this week even though it comes in a million colors. They’re comfortable and feel like a summer version of leggings when it’s too hot for them.

WATCHING

Who else is watching Selling Sunset? I’ve also been rewatching the last season of Yellowstone to get ready for the new one.

SHARING

If you have time and want comfort food, there’s a new video of my french onion chicken lasagna roll-ups. It’s indulgent and incredibly delicious.

LOVING

I’m loving my Apple Watch pride sport band. I wanted a rainbow band that wouldn’t stay wet while doing dishes — this sporty version is perfect and I wear it all the time.

WRITING

I’m revisiting goals I set in late 2019 and creating a realistic list for the rest of 2020. With so much change this year, it’s easy to slip into bad habits, so I’m planning manageable steps to finish the year well.

CELEBRATING

We’ll celebrate Father’s Day with family later this weekend. Today is Juneteenth, which marks the end of slavery in the United States; it’s an important day of reflection and recognition. If you have a moment, consider supporting efforts to recognize Juneteenth as a national day of observance.
