Summer Fridays Volume 3: Chill Tracks for Long Weekend Vibes

summer fridays

It’s the first official day of summer and a Friday — the perfect way to start the season.

FEELING

All the summer vibes are here. This feels like our first full summer weekend as a family, even though it technically falls on the first day of summer. We haven’t had a full summer weekend yet, and after so much rain this month without a single pool day, I’m thrilled to sit on the patio, sip rosé, grill a lot of food and simply enjoy the warm weather.

EATING

Last weekend I made my root beer BBQ ribs, and if you haven’t tried them you’re missing out. Pair them with crispy smashed potatoes, parmesan roasted broccoli and a bright summer panzanella for a memorable meal.

SIPPING

I’m on a serious Aperol Spritz kick — the classic recipe is my go-to, though I’ve tried a winter twist as well. I’m also loving a spicy watermelon sangria, and of course we’re still working through bottles of rosé. My rosé guide kept us well stocked and ready for every occasion this month.

MAKING

I’ll be making a batch of lavender mint lemonade for the weekend — I adore it. For Sunday dinner this week I’m planning a gorgonzola-crusted steak salad, which is outstanding and easy to put together.

CRAVING

I can’t stop thinking about roasted strawberry milkshakes topped with chocolate-pistachio brittle. Absolutely yes.

LOVING

I’m head over heels for my air fryer. I wrote about it earlier this week and we use it constantly. It makes the best crunchy roasted vegetables in no time. I almost bought one as an engagement gift for my brother and his fiancée but chose an Instant Pot instead — they love it, but now I wish I’d gotten them an air fryer too.

READING

I just started Summer of 69 by Elin and am still early into it. Last week I finished Mrs. Everything and absolutely loved it — Jennifer Weiner’s writing pulled me in immediately. The book isn’t light; it moved me many times, but I couldn’t put it down. It’s essentially the story of two sisters’ lives, and I’m eager to hear what others think. I’m also excited to hand it to my mom since it resonates with women her age. What are you reading right now?

WRITING

I’m putting together our summer bucket list a bit late, but I’m inspired by illustrated lists I’ve seen on Instagram. I want Max to pick things he’s excited about. We kicked things off with strawberry picking last weekend and have a few other ideas lined up. My top three summer goals: eat dinner outside at least once a week, visit a local winery and host an outdoor movie night with lots of great snacks.

LISTENING

I’ve been playing a flashback Friday playlist on repeat — it’s perfect for getting into a relaxed, nostalgic mood.

LIVING

I’ve been living in a sun visor lately. I take sun protection seriously, and this visor covers my face comfortably. It’s essential for sunny walks when I don’t care how I look but want protection. For workouts and sweaty outdoor activity, I use an adjustable Lululemon visor that’s been fantastic.

WEARING

I bought a dress for a Nantucket trip and love it — if you’re going to wear Lilly Pulitzer, Nantucket is the place. I’m also yearning for a floral maxi dress and am still obsessed with a particular Wildfox sweatshirt. Those sweatshirts are outrageously comfortable and often become pajamas for me, even if they’re only wearable once in public before looking lived-in.

PLANNING

We’re planning a wedding — not mine, but Lacy’s! If you follow on Instagram you may know she got engaged recently. If you have recommendations in the Pittsburgh area for hair, makeup, photography or florals, I’d love to hear them.

Can’t I just live in that hydrangea?
