Summer Fridays Volume 14: New Music & Summer Vibes playlist

summer fridays

It’s our last summer Fridays of the year — a final roundup of seasonal favorites, recipes, and finds to send summer off right.

EATING

For Labor Day weekend, consider a fun slider bar for easy entertaining. A chilled queso makes a great party dip, and a bright lemon chicken pasta salad is a perfect make-ahead crowd pleaser. Zucchini corn fritters are a simple, flavorful side or snack that use peak summer produce.

DRINKING

Celebrate the season with an apple cider spritz for a light, fizzy fall transition drink. For a cozy coffee twist, try a pumpkin coconut cream cold brew — great iced or over ice for warm afternoons.

MAKING

Salted apple fritters are a must-make while apples are in season. Crispy on the outside and tender inside, they’re an indulgent treat that tastes like fall.

BAKING

Brown butter pistachio granola is an excellent snack for busy school days. It keeps well, adds crunch to yogurt or milk, and offers a nutty, caramelized flavor profile kids and adults love.

GRILLING

Grilled corn summer enchiladas are a smoky, fresh take on a classic, while grilled chicken Caesar sandwiches bring charred flavor and easy handheld appeal — both are ideal for backyard cookouts.

CRAVING

When it comes to cozy breakfasts, cinnamon toasted pumpkin pie oatmeal is one of my favorites. Another top pick: baked pumpkin cheesecake oatmeal for a creamy, spiced morning that feels like dessert.

LISTENING

We’ve put together a summer Fridays send-off playlist to keep the mood bright as the season winds down.

READING

I just started The Cliffs — a good book is always a welcome companion. What are you reading right now?

SHARING

I compiled a full Labor Day recipe guide with ideas for easy menus, plus a collection of back-to-school dinners to simplify busy evenings. For effortless weeknight cooking, check out the selection of sheet pan dishes that minimize prep and cleanup.

WEARING

A longtime favorite is the best Champion tank — comfortable, durable, and perfect for hot days. I’ve lived in mine while it’s been in the 90s. I also picked up a lightweight wrap coat that I’m obsessed with for cooler evenings; it has a polished, Varsity-style vibe. The newest fall collection from Varley has some gorgeous pieces and colors this season.

SHOPPING

Labor Day sales are in full swing, and many of the finds are items our family already loves. I especially enjoy shopping for kids’ outfits — coordinating looks are so fun. My go-to stores for children’s clothes include Target, J.Crew Factory (which I prefer for kids over the mainline), and smaller brands with unique pieces. A few sales that caught my eye include skincare, loungewear, and curated apparel events from well-known brands.

LOVING

My seasonal Amazon shop is full of Halloween items I can’t wait to pull out — there are so many cute decorations and pieces that make celebrating fun. I also love paper-craft and decor collections for adding subtle seasonal touches. This year I replaced glitter bats on the mantel with black glitter butterflies for a fresh, elegant look.

CELEBRATING

We’re closing out our summer Fridays for 2024. These weekly posts have been a highlight all season and I’m so grateful for the ritual. Fall brings the very best recipes, and I have a lineup of delicious new dishes coming your way — plus some exciting projects on the horizon, including my next book. Thanks for following along; I can’t wait to share what’s next.
