Currently Crushing On: People, Trends, and Things I’m Obsessed With

My first crush post of 2016 is here—and I promise not to fill it up with kale. Probably.

The first full week of the year is finally over. Thank goodness. It felt long, didn’t it? How are you doing—life-wise, emotionally, and everything in between?

What are your plans for the weekend? Mine will involve blood oranges, a batch of blood orange syrup, and everything that goes with it—margaritas included. I’ll also do a bit of meal prep on Sunday: just an hour, no more. Any longer and it becomes a miserable time sink. And I can’t wait for the Golden Globes. Make some champagne caramels and enjoy the show.

I’ve been loving a recent post on DesignLoveFest about blogging like it’s 2009. Nearly everything in that piece resonated with me and ties into why I wrote my resolutions last week—I want to get more personal and return to the original reason I started doing this.

Also: have you watched Making a Murderer? I’m still reeling.

Here are some great things I found this week:

  • The best huevos rancheros I’ve ever seen.
  • Seven personal-development books that could change your life. I’ve read some and I’m adding the rest to my list.
  • My resolution: bake nutella-stuffed brown butter blondies.
  • My second resolution: make those “everything-but-the-kitchen-sink” resolution cookies—seriously, they have everything.
  • On Wednesday night I tried a slow-cooker pork and gnocchi dish and it was fantastic.
  • White Russian ice cream—yes, please.
  • That bright green matcha smoothie bowl is absolutely dreamy.
  • I’m attempting an imperfect 365 (well, 366) photography project. So far, so good.
  • Almost-raw crunchy caramel slice? Count me in.
  • Even though I said I was over cookies this week, I can’t resist salted tahini chocolate chip cookies.
  • And cheeseburgers with stout-glazed bacon, crispy onions, and sriracha aioli? Definitely yes.

What are you crushing on this week? I’d love to hear what you’re discovering, obsessing over, or planning to try.
