It’s the ultimate summer Friday! Whether you’re settling into your usual routine or enjoying a long weekend, I’d love to hear what you have planned. xo
EATING
Summer means sweet corn, so I’m making my popular BLT chopped salad with corn, feta, and avocado. I’m also tempted by grilled watermelon Caprese salads and can never resist a crispy zucchini grilled cheese. Another favorite that’s perfect for backyard meals is my summer BBQ quinoa salad — light, flavorful, and easy to assemble.
DRINKING
For drinks, frosty coconut mojitos are calling my name. If you’re as obsessed with peaches as I am right now, a fresh peach gin and tonic is an ideal weekend cocktail.
MAKING
For the Fourth, I made ricotta jam jars and served watermelon cubes topped with feta. This weekend I’m planning to make my caprese pasta salad — it’s simple, bright, and feeds a crowd. What are you cooking this weekend?
BAKING
While it’s not technically baking, a double batch of red, white, and blue party mix is a must — it disappears fast. If you do want to bake, little peach hand pies are delightful and perfectly seasonal.
READING
I had a slow reading week but I’ve just started City of Girls and hope to finish it soon. After that, I’m thinking about The Friend Zone. What are you reading this week? My full summer reading list is available if you need recommendations.
LISTENING
I’ve been listening to our homemade yacht rock playlist — smooth, nostalgic, and great for summer evenings. If you enjoy that mellow, classic sound, add it to your rotation.
WEARING
I’ve basically created a small workout capsule wardrobe. Despite loving bright colors, I find myself reaching for black workout pieces most often. My go-to staples are lululemon Align crops (I swear by them) and a favorite Target tank. Those two items are my everyday picks and make getting dressed for a workout effortless.
GOING
We’re heading to see Toy Story 4 this weekend and I’m planning to take Emilia along. Have you seen it yet?
BUYING
I’m excited about the Nordstrom anniversary sale — I don’t usually like shopping for fall in July, but that sale always yields a few pieces I wear all year. I tend to skip impulsive social media recommendations and look through the sale myself to find items I’ll actually use. I’ll share favorites next week.
GETTING
I’m finally back on the Peloton after a rough six weeks of illness that kept me from riding. My June mileage took a hit, but I’m feeling better and grateful to get back to my routine. If you want to follow me on the Peloton app, my username is howsweeteats.
WRITING
I’ve been checking progress on my 2019 goals now that we’re more than halfway through the year. The second half is always busier: Lacy is getting married, I need to finish my next book, and there’s the usual work and family life to manage. My plan is to map out the next six months while staying flexible when things change. With two kids and a full schedule, staying organized is key.

Mojito time.
