I have a longtime love affair with margaritas — specifically this margarita recipe.

It’s my favorite margarita on the rocks. Simple, balanced and exactly what I want in a cocktail.

I’m picky about margaritas — very picky — and to me this one stands above the rest.

The core ingredients are straightforward: tequila, Grand Marnier, fresh lime juice and simple syrup. A few citrus slices for garnish are nice, but that’s it.
I may still be a bit hungover — a good sign that these are worth it.

Ingredients
- 2 ounces Grand Marnier
- 1 1/2 ounces Tequila
- 2 ounces Fresh lime juice
- 1 1/2 ounces Simple syrup
- Orange, lemon and lime slices for garnish
- Salt for the rim
Instructions
-
Run a lime wedge around the rim of a glass and dip it into margarita salt. Fill the glass with ice. In a cocktail shaker add tequila, Grand Marnier, simple syrup and lime juice with ice, then shake vigorously for about 30 seconds. Strain and pour over the ice in the prepared glass. Garnish with lemon, lime and orange slices and squeeze a bit of each into the drink.
-
Simple syrup: Combine equal parts sugar and water in a small saucepan, bring to a simmer and stir until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat and cool completely before using.
-
This recipe scales easily — double, quadruple, or make a pitcher. Adjust the sweetness to taste, adding simple syrup gradually. If making larger batches, bottled lime juice is a convenient option to avoid squeezing many limes.
