I don’t think I can ever eat a regular-shaped pizza again.

Who wants circles, squares, or rectangular flatbreads when you can enjoy pizza shaped like a heart?

So adorable and festive.
The heart-shaped pepperoni is a must—even for someone who isn’t a big pepperoni fan. It’s incredibly simple: take round pepperoni slices, fold each slice in half, snip a teardrop shape with kitchen shears, then unfold to reveal a little heart. Once you do a few, you’ll get the rhythm and it becomes quick and satisfying.

This idea has been floating around the internet for a while; I didn’t invent it, but I made one for Eddie last week and it was delightfully charming. He might not have cared about the shape as much as I did, but it tasted fantastic.
I start with a favorite pizza crust and let the dough rise as usual. Then I shape it into a heart on a pizza peel—don’t worry if it’s not perfect; the rustic look is part of the fun.
I use jarred sauce when I’m feeling lazy, and for this pie I tore up a ball of fresh buffalo mozzarella and scattered it across the crust. Next, I arranged the heart-shaped pepperoni pieces evenly over the cheese. The pizza goes onto a preheated pizza stone, and I bake it for roughly 15 minutes, though the exact time depends on your dough thickness and oven temperature.
When it’s out of the oven, I finish with fresh basil leaves for color and aroma.

We happily devoured our little heart pizzas—yes, the pun was inevitable.

Charming, simple, and fun to make—this is easily one of the most delightful pizzas. Try it for a casual dinner, a Valentine’s treat, or anytime you want to make a meal feel special.
