Homemade Nut Butter Recipes and Tips for Creamy Spreads

It’s no secret that I love peanut butter.

If I were stranded on a desert island and could take only three things, a jar of nut butter and a spoon would be two of them. I haven’t decided on the third yet — it’s a toss-up between bacon and my favorite pair of shoes.

When I make nut butter at home, I rarely make a plain jar. I prefer creative flavors — plain just isn’t my style. Here are some of my favorites.

Salted Chocolate Pecan Butter

This one is my absolute favorite. Rich, chocolatey, and perfectly salted — don’t hate it because it’s beautiful.

Pistachio Coconut Butter

This one might not win a beauty contest, but the flavor more than makes up for it. Pistachio and coconut are a brilliant combination — the easiest cure for an ugly appearance is to eat the whole jar.

Chocolate Cherry Almond Butter

I usually dislike almond butter — it can be bland and not sweet enough for my taste — but this homemade version wins me over. The chocolate and cherry transform it into something special.

Vanilla Cinnamon Pecan Butter

Perfect pecan butter — smooth, warmly spiced, and utterly irresistible. Pecans may be indulgent, but that’s part of their charm.

What’s your favorite non-peanut nut butter? Making them at home is fast and rewarding. You do need a powerful food processor — a small one might struggle — but with the right equipment the process is quick and mostly hands-off.

Are there any homemade nut butters you’re eager to try? I’m tempted to make Ashley’s salt-kissed cashew butter and her cocoa-coco peanut butter — both sound delicious and worth experimenting with in the kitchen.
