I make my favorite version of avocado toast following a simple, flavorful method shared on A Cup of Jo. It’s an easy snack or light meal: ripe avocado, a squeeze of lemon or lime, a pinch of flaky salt, a grind of black pepper, and a drizzle of olive oil. Toast your bread until it’s golden and slightly crisp, then mash or slice the avocado and spread it on while the toast is still warm so the flavors meld.
To elevate the toast, consider adding a few optional toppings: cherry tomatoes or thinly sliced radishes for brightness, red pepper flakes for heat, or a sprinkle of toasted seeds for crunch. A soft-boiled or poached egg adds protein and a silky texture. Fresh herbs like cilantro, parsley, or basil bring a lively finish, and a touch of lemon zest lifts the overall flavor.
This preparation is intentionally flexible—use hearty sourdough, whole-grain, or a crusty country loaf depending on your preference. Riper avocados mash more easily and taste richer, while firmer avocados hold slices better. Adjust seasoning to your taste and enjoy it for breakfast, brunch, or a quick snack.
Happy Saturdaying.
