I fully believe something.
Sometimes there’s not much better than a classic chocolate chip cookie. They’re often perfect on their own and rarely need embellishment.
Right? Right.
My husband agrees.
I also firmly believe store-bought cookies usually taste like cardboard. With a few exceptions, I’d almost always rather take a few minutes to make fresh cookies or choose a different dessert, like cheesecake. After too many disappointing impulse purchases at the checkout, I’ve learned that homemade is usually worth the effort.
And speaking of life lessons, I feel like I should learn to sew before I turn thirty — not because I want to, but because it feels like something I should do. Strange, I know.
So… just say no to mass-produced cookies.
EXCEPT… when you live near an incredible bakery that makes the best cookies you’ve ever tasted. These cookies are enormous and thick, impossible to replicate at home, and they make you slightly obsessed.
They’re that good—my husband once admitted he hesitated to move because his apartment was less than a mile from those cookies. He swore he couldn’t imagine being farther away, which—whether earnest or slightly comedic—shows how much he loved them.
Recently we went on a cookie binge. By the end of Memorial Day weekend we had about eight giant cookies left and felt guilty about eating them all. We didn’t want to waste them, but we didn’t want to gorge ourselves either.
Then I had a lightbulb moment: blend the cookies into a milkshake. Suddenly it didn’t feel like we were devouring all of them — we were drinking them. I also had leftover coffee ice cream in the freezer, which made the idea a no-brainer.
Now I can’t stop making these shakes. They are dangerously good. When I visit the bakery on the weekend I buy extra cookies — some to enjoy and some to blend into milkshakes. It’s become a delicious problem.
Chocolate Chip Cookie Kahlua Milkshakes
Makes 2 shakes
- 2 cups coffee ice cream
- 1 1/2 cups milk (I used vanilla almond-coconut milk)
- 1/2 cup Kahlua
- 2 large chocolate chip cookies, plus 1 more to crumble on top
- 6 ice cubes
Directions: Add all ingredients to a blender and process until almost smooth, leaving some small pieces of cookie for texture if you like. Pour into glasses, crumble additional cookie on top, and serve immediately.
