It’s no secret that I love to bake.
This holiday season my cookie list feels overwhelming — in the best way. Below is what I plan to bake, give, and eat. Last year I made so many cookies that, one frantic evening while rushing to a party, Mr. How Sweet actually ended up ready before me. That never happens. I asked him to assemble a cookie tray and he created the most impressive display: cookies piled at least six inches high. It looked fabulous, festive, and absolutely irresistible.
I love having a variety of cookies around for parties and gifts. It’s the Mother Lovett in me. The only challenge is fitting all of this baking into my schedule — and keeping myself from eating it all before the holidays arrive.
Holiday Christmas Cookie List
Chocolate Chip Cookies
Peanut Butter Blossoms: my all-time favorite holiday cookie.
Cut-out Sugar Cookies: these disappear quickly in our house — I use tons of sprinkles.
Mother Lovett’s Thumbprints: a classic that stores well in the freezer for months.
Oreo Balls
Red Velvet Cake Balls: red velvet cake mixed with cream cheese frosting and dipped in white chocolate — festive and rich.
Cookie Dough Truffles
Soft Gingersnaps: I tried these last year and ended up making five more batches — so good and warmly spiced.
Festive Chocolate Covered Oreos
Festive Chocolate Covered Pretzel Rods: inspired by Sabrina, these were a hit last season — salty, sweet, and pretty.
Big, Soft Sugar Cookies: I can’t wait to bake these; they remind me of Lofthouse-style cookies I used to love.
Mother Lovett’s Butterballs: my mom adores these — a nostalgic favorite.
Salty Chocolate Turtle Cookies
Red Velvet Cookies
Chocolate Peanut Butter Bars: cookie flavors in convenient bar form.
Chocolate Fudge Mint Blossoms
Mother Lovett’s Orange Cookies: cake-like, citrusy cookies that always please my mom.
Seven Layer Bars: also called Congo bars by some. I don’t measure much and like the layers extra thick.
Peanut Butter and Jelly Cookies
Honestly, I’m not sure where I’ll store all these treats — besides our freezing garage — or how I’ll avoid eating the entire stash by December 20th. And that’s before I add any new cookie recipes I plan to share throughout December.
How will I manage my time, stay sane, and still fit into my pants? That’s the real question. But what I really want to know from you is:
What am I missing? What cookie can you not resist at the holidays? Which treat screams Christmas to you? Do you make a cookie list too? If you have a favorite recipe, please share it or leave a link.
