Last night we went to the Capitol Grille for a belated birthday dinner. I had spent my actual birthday baking cupcakes, so this was our chance to celebrate properly.
Have you ever been to the Capitol Grille? We love it.
I started the evening with several glasses of ice-cold Pinot Grigio.

My husband was a little horrified that I was taking pictures in an upscale restaurant, so I tried to be discreet with my phone camera. Because of that I missed taking photos with our friends Cindy and Nick—next time, for sure.
I don’t usually love bread, but this night was an exception. It was warm and I was hungry, so I couldn’t resist.

Totally worth it.
For an appetizer we shared one of our favorites—calamari served with jalapeños and red cherry peppers. Honestly, the best calamari I’ve ever had.
Although I sometimes avoid meat, I couldn’t pass up the beef tenderloin topped with butter-poached lobster. The word “butter” pretty much sealed the deal.
They surprised us with a complimentary dessert that we selected from the menu. After debating, we chose the cheesecake.
It was fantastic—the top had a crunchy, sugary crust that made it exceptional.
We were tired afterward, so we came home and crashed. The next day I convinced my husband to start decorating for the holidays. Well, “start” is generous—think of us as the Griswolds. We have two trees, including one that dominates the family room.
My husband tried to argue for a Thanksgiving theme with Pilgrims, but I felt we already have plenty of decorations.
While shopping I found some Pilgrim decorations that made me laugh.

I didn’t buy them; having a turkey-themed item at home is punishment enough.
I also had my first peppermint mocha of the season—sugary, indulgent, and delicious, and it left me jittery for the rest of the day.

Tis the season!
Happy Sunday. 🙂
