If you love orange and cinnamon together—like in those classic orange cinnamon rolls—these muffins capture the same nostalgic flavor without the fuss. They’re quicker and just as comforting, perfect for holiday mornings or a cozy weekend breakfast.

Make them the night before and enjoy a relaxed morning with a latte and twinkling lights. They keep for a few days when stored in an airtight container, which makes them a great make-ahead option for busy holiday or brunch schedules.

These muffins are essentially a coffee cake in muffin form—no cinnamon swirl in the batter, but a generous crumbly streusel on top that turns golden and slightly crisp in the oven. The glaze adds a fresh, zesty finish thanks to fresh orange zest and juice.

Sounds amazing.

They’re light and airy, with a pronounced orange flavor balanced by warm cinnamon. The streusel provides a satisfying crunch and the glaze gives them a bright, sweet finish.

Ingredients

Muffins

  • 1 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 2 teaspoons baking powder
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup granulated sugar
  • 2 large eggs, lightly beaten
  • 3/4 cup milk
  • 1/3 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 tablespoons freshly grated orange zest

Streusel

  • 3 tablespoons light brown sugar
  • 3 tablespoons granulated sugar
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 cup unsalted butter, melted
  • 3/4 cup all-purpose flour

Orange Glaze

  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 2 tablespoons freshly squeezed orange juice
  • 1 teaspoon freshly grated orange zest

Instructions

Muffins

  • Preheat the oven to 350°F. Line a 12-cup muffin tin with liners.
  • In a bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, cinnamon, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a larger bowl, whisk the sugar and eggs until combined. Whisk in the milk, vegetable oil, and vanilla.
  • Add the dry ingredients to the wet and mix until just combined. Stir in the orange zest. Fill each muffin liner about two-thirds full. Sprinkle the streusel on top, pressing gently so it adheres.
  • Bake 18 to 20 minutes, or until centers are set and the streusel is golden. Remove from the oven and drizzle with orange glaze before serving.

Streusel

  • Whisk together the brown sugar, granulated sugar, cinnamon, salt, and melted butter until the sugar begins to dissolve. Stir in the flour with a wooden spoon until the mixture forms coarse crumbs. Sprinkle over each muffin before baking.

Orange Glaze

  • Whisk the powdered sugar, orange juice, and orange zest until smooth. If the glaze is too thick, add orange juice 1 teaspoon at a time. If too thin, add more powdered sugar a tablespoon at a time until the desired consistency is reached. Drizzle over cooled muffins.
