Sparkling Grapefruit Sangria Recipe for Summer Gatherings

It seems every few months I get a craving for seasonal sangria.

I don’t know what that says about me, but I’m going to embrace it. I clearly have a sangria obsession — just look at my other recipes — and honestly, it’s one of the best obsessions to have.

If you like grapefruit, this will be right up your alley. I understand grapefruit can be tart and a bit sharp, and it’s not everyone’s favorite. I, however, adore grapefruit. I love the bright, punchy tartness — the way it hits your palate with immediate citrusy zing. I’m drawn to grapefruit in everything: scented products, flavored snacks, and especially the fruit itself. I prefer grapefruit plain and unadulterated; its bold flavor is exactly what I want.

A few weeks ago my husband and I experimented with some grapefruit sorbet and a half-open bottle of prosecco. We dropped a giant scoop of sorbet into an ice-cold glass of prosecco and sipped. It was simple and delicious, and I knew it would translate beautifully into a sangria with the right balance of white wine, sparkling wine, a touch of sweetness, club soda for lift, and fresh strawberries for color and flavor.

It’s a drink I could happily enjoy on repeat, but I’ll limit myself to sipping it rather than imagining it any other way.
