Summer Fridays Vol. 5: Chill Weekend Playlist

summer fridays

Hello summer Friday! Here’s a snapshot of what my weekend looks like—food, drinks, music, and a few things I’m loving this season.

EATING

For the weekend I’m leaning into big, shareable plates like pulled pork nachos with pickle slaw. They’re perfect for grazing with friends or family. I’m also making my turkey summer sliders, which are ideal for a pool or beach day—easy to pack and even easier to eat. Another repeat favorite is the jalapeño cheddar broccoli salad; it’s satisfyingly crunchy and bright, a great counterpoint to richer dishes.

DRINKING

I’ve been enjoying a spicy grapefruit soda lately—light, tart, and refreshing. Add tequila if you like, but it’s just as good as a non-alcoholic option for hot afternoons.

MAKING

One of my go-to quick dishes is this 15-minute watermelon Greek salad. It’s simple, cool, and perfect for summer produce. I also love making BLT wraps with jalapeño ranch—they’re portable, packed with flavor, and great for casual lunches or picnics.

BAKING

On the baking side, my coconut zucchini chocolate chip bread is a summer staple. I crave it every season: moist, lightly sweet, and perfect with morning coffee or as an afternoon treat.

CRAVING

I’m currently powerless against peanut butter Golden Grahams s’mores bars. They’re nostalgic, indulgent, and impossible to pass up once they’re around.

GRILLING

Grilling season means making the best grilled steak tacos. We top ours with chimichurri, which Eddie and I both love—bright herbs and a little heat really lift the steak.

SNACKING

For easy entertaining, I often put together my grilled pepper prosciutto snack plate. It’s always a hit with the family: simple, flavorful, and great for nibbling between meals.

PREPPING

When I need make-ahead treats, I turn to no-churn peanut butter Oreo ice cream. It’s effortless to prepare and disappears fast—perfect for warm evenings or when guests stop by.

LISTENING

On repeat right now is the official Love Story playlist. It’s a delightfully 90s mix that’s great for driving or background music at a casual gathering.

READING

Speaking of Love Story, on our drive to and from the beach I listened to Ask Not, after many recommendations from readers. It made the ride fly by and sparked a lot of conversation.

WEARING

I’ve been wearing a comfortable, chic gap set lately—the linen skirt and matching shell. It’s polished yet relaxed, with a flattering waist and a classic silhouette. I own it in two colors and appreciate how easily the pieces mix and match for both dressy and casual looks.

SHOPPING

Summer entertaining has me eyeing festive tableware, like these hot dog platter plates for the Fourth of July. I’m also loving Americana-themed linens and decor, floral bamboo plates, and hanging lanterns—little details that make holiday meals feel special for the kids and guests.

LOVING

I’m smitten with a few homey touches, such as rom-com themed book plates and a lightweight J.Crew summer sweater I take everywhere. It’s the perfect third layer—versatile, cozy enough for cool evenings, and easy to tie around the waist or shoulders.

SHARING

I’ve posted a bunch of short recipe videos on Instagram lately: a peach arugula salad, cheddar jalapeño chicken salad, summer salmon spread, grilled bang bang salmon skewers, the best tortellini salad, and garlic butter zucchini noodles. They’re quick demonstrations if you want a visual guide to any of these dishes.

WRITING

After the beach, I prepped several meals using a one-hour grilling meal prep routine. It saved so much time during the week and made dinners effortless when we returned home.

BUYING

I recently purchased the new Rhode highlight milk and bronzer and have been excited to try them. I’ve loved Rhode blushes for years, and the new additions feel like a natural fit in my makeup rotation—quality products at reasonable prices compared to many prestige brands.
