Summer Fridays Volume 9: New Releases & Seasonal Picks

summer fridays

This is one refreshing summer Friday!

EATING

This weekend I’m resetting after a carb-heavy getaway. I plan to prep my summer chickpea salad, a blueberry summer salad and the heirloom tomato and grilled peach pasta. I might also make steak and potato skewers for Sunday night dinner.

DRINKING

Frozen drinks are on my mind — especially layered watermelon coconut shakes. They’re cooling and perfect for hot afternoons.

MAKING

I’ll make a poppy seed fruit salad this weekend; it’s light, refreshing, and the kids love it. I’m also planning a batch of copycat chipotle corn salsa to keep on hand.

BAKING

I’ll bake bursting blueberry coffee cake muffins so we can indulge a little without going overboard.

CRAVING

I’m craving marinated grilled vegetables with avocado whipped feta — they’re my favorite right now.

LISTENING

I’ve been enjoying a mellow moves playlist that’s perfect background music for a relaxed weekend.

READING

I’m still working through The Last Flight. I hit my first real reading lull on vacation — I couldn’t manage a single page between kid chaos and exhaustion. Hoping to finish it this weekend now that things have settled a bit.

LOVING

I’ve been spending time on the Zen Habits site. It’s one of the best places I’ve found for practical, calming self-care ideas.

WEARING

I’m loving the Presidio dress from Athleta. I ordered it in May and just got it recently. It’s great for the beach — casual, cute, and comfortable. I still take my black summer dresses seriously, but this one is a fun, easy option.

SHOPPING

I’m browsing the Nordstrom sale — there are so many pieces I love, including staples I’ve used for years. I shared my favorites earlier this week and plan to update the list as I find more good things, especially in the kids’ section.

LEARNING

I’m learning how to create reels on Instagram. Part of me thinks, “Ugh — another thing,” but I’m glad the feature is built right into the app. I’ve been experimenting and getting more comfortable with the short video format.
