When I was growing up, I loved the nights my mom made breakfast for dinner — usually eggs and sometimes ham.
We rarely had pancakes because my dad was the unofficial pancake master.
I have to be careful how I say this, because at home Mr. How Sweet insists he’s the king of pancakes.
It’s a friendly little rivalry.
The funny part is my dad doesn’t see it as a competition at all.
Every time I bite into one of Mr. How Sweet’s pancakes, he’s right there asking whose pancakes taste better.
I’m an equal-opportunity pancake lover.
I also love drizzling peanut butter on pancakes.
But in true glutton fashion, I always want to add more and more peanut butter.
A single serving is rarely enough for me.
So this time I mixed the peanut butter into the pancake batter and served them for dinner. A meal that combines peanut butter and chocolate might just be the best thing — and it’s a good excuse to skip vegetables.
Who wants a side of veggies with chocolate and peanut butter? Not me.
I melted the peanut butter and swirled it into whole wheat pancake batter.

And what is peanut butter without chocolate?
They belong together, so I stirred in a handful of chocolate chips.
Topped with a drizzle of warm maple syrup, these pancakes feel indulgent but start with whole wheat so they’re a little heart-healthy too.

Do I dare say I liked these pancakes better than my dad’s and Mr. How Sweet’s?
I can’t really judge, because food always seems better when someone else makes it.
But they are super tasty. Try them — they’ll make you giddy.
