Have you ever bought something—like a package of cookies, a pint of ice cream, a bag of peanut butter M&M’s, or a container of smashing s’mores from Trader Joe’s—and ripped into it before you even unloaded the groceries? Maybe you even ate the whole bag in the car?
No? Neither have I. Phew. Glad we cleared that up — another thing in common. Communication, people. It’s everything.
Since I still have the entire container left of Trader Joe’s smashing s’mores that I bought last weekend, I decided to recreate them at home for the day I inevitably run out. I like to plan ahead and get all my ducks in a row.
I love a good s’more — actually, I love s’more anything. If appropriate, I’d gladly pop one marshmallow (maybe two), a chunk of chocolate, and a graham cracker into my mouth, breathe on it to warm it up, then chew. S’mores are messy; that’s part of the charm.
I don’t know why Trader Joe calls these little s’more bites “smashing,” but I like it. They’re slightly bigger than bite-size — the kind that looks like it will fit in your mouth but demands you open wide and makes you look ridiculous when you try to chew. Totally worth it. They’re adorable, portable, and easy to make — one or thirty-nine, your choice.
If you want to go all out, you could make your own graham crackers and marshmallows to create tinier, more uniform bites. That takes patience and time, but it will yield neat, perfectly sized s’mores if you’re feeling extra fancy.

They’re perfect for mindlessly snacking while watching reality TV. And if you want to microwave them for a few seconds to get the marshmallow gooey, go for it — I approve.
I’m blurry. Don’t mind me. My photographer was too busy chewing.
Smashing S’mores

Ingredients:
- marshmallows
- graham crackers
- chocolate chips or bar chocolate, melted
Instructions:
Melt a small amount of chocolate in a bowl to use as “glue.” Melt additional chocolate (about 1 cup of chocolate chips, or adjust as needed) in a deep glass or mug for easy dipping.
Break graham crackers into quarters, then cut or snap each quarter into squares. Use a dab of melted chocolate to glue two cracker squares together, add a small dab on top, and press a marshmallow onto the chocolate. Let the assembled bites set for 30–60 minutes at room temperature, or refrigerate for about 15 minutes if you’re impatient, until the grahams and marshmallows are firmly stuck together.
Using a thin fork or a pointed tool (a fondue fork works well), gently insert it into the top of the marshmallow and dip the piece into the melted chocolate, covering as much as you like. Remove and place on wax paper to set. Add extra chocolate on top if desired.
Store in the fridge or keep at room temperature; both are fine depending on how soft you prefer the marshmallow and chocolate.
If smashing s’mores aren’t your thing, try s’mores brownies, no-bake s’mores bars, s’mores in a jar, or a s’mores pie. And if you truly don’t like s’mores… well, I don’t even know you anymore.
