Here are some of my favorite healthy dinner ideas organized into 49 weeks of menu inspiration — more than 300 dinner options to simplify meal planning and prep so you can enjoy satisfying, nourishing meals at home.

This is one of my favorite posts to refresh each year. I keep the format similar but swap in 40–50 new healthy meals I loved over the past year and remove the ones I no longer reach for. I refer back to this list constantly when I’m short on dinner ideas — even as someone who develops recipes for a living, dinner planning can be tricky.

On a typical week we plan and shop for three full meals. That prevents boredom with our menu, leaves just enough leftovers, gives flexibility for one or two nights out or takeout, and often leaves room for a breakfast-for-dinner night, which we love. During the pandemic we cooked at home far more; some weeks we made five or six different dinners, other weeks only two and relied on leftovers plus takeout. The key is finding what works for your household.

Balance matters to me: I aim for meals that always include a vegetable, are consistent, and — most importantly — are planned ahead. Planning is the secret to eating better most of the time, though I still fall out of the habit sometimes. When dinners are planned, we tend to eat healthier and enjoy meals more.
