Refreshing Blood Orange Cooler Recipe for Summer Drinks

Blood orange mocktail, coming right up!

It was between this and a blood orange hot toddy, but I was craving something cool instead of warm.

Every year I think about being a skier just so I can sit in a cozy lodge drinking hot toddies, boozy hot chocolate, or coffee spiked with whiskey.

You get the idea.

With these freezing weeks and the extra stir-craziness of life with two kids, I keep telling Eddie we should drive up to a ski resort just to sit by a fire for an hour.

Yes — just sit there.

Pack up a newborn and a toddler, drive 45 minutes, and sit. In my head it’s dreamy: a warm lodge, a crackling fire, and snow falling softly outside.

…and somehow the newborn and toddler are perfectly calm for an hour or two. It sounds ideal, of course.

So I went with the cooler instead. For obvious reasons.

This refreshing drink features freshly squeezed blood orange juice, a splash of lime, coconut water, and seltzer for bubbles. The blood orange provides natural sweetness, so this isn’t tart or overly sour. If you prefer more sweetness or a different fizz, substitute the seltzer with a blood orange Italian soda for extra flavor.

If you want a boozy option for a weekend gathering or game day, citrus cocktails work beautifully. Some favorites to consider are pink grapefruit margaritas, grapefruit daiquiris, blood orange sangria, palomas, or a meyer lemon shandy sangria. They all pair nicely with casual winter weekends.

If you’re observing Dry January, this mocktail is a bright, refreshing choice that still feels festive.
