Irresistible Fudgy Brownies That Rival Your Favorite Treats

I’m sorry for doing this to you. These brownies, though.

I really am. But “better than crack” brownies? The name had to happen.

Last Friday, while on a 10-hour road trip heading to vacation, a reader named Liz sent me this recipe.

Liz, I love you. That’s it — simple and true.

I spent eight days thinking about them before I could actually make them. I meant to bake them on vacation, but I never managed to get off the couch.

So they were the first thing I made when I got home.

These brownies are an absolute sin — in the best possible way.

I don’t have many words besides you must try them. They’ll change your life.

They may also change your waistline, too.

But that’s okay.

It’s all in the name of chocolate.

Totally worth it, in my opinion — and likely everyone else’s, too.

Ingredients

  • 1 batch boxed brownie mix
  • 1/2 cup salted peanuts (if unsalted, add sea salt)
  • 1 cup chopped Reese’s peanut butter cups
  • 1 1/2 cup milk chocolate chips
  • 1 1/2 cups creamy peanut butter
  • 1/2 tablespoon butter
  • 1 1/2 cups Rice Krispies cereal

Instructions

  • Prepare the boxed brownie mix according to package directions. Pour batter into a 9 x 13-inch baking dish and bake for 20 to 25 minutes.
  • Remove the brownies from the oven, sprinkle the top with the peanuts and chopped peanut butter cups, then return to the oven and bake 4 to 6 more minutes.
  • While the brownies finish, melt the milk chocolate chips, peanut butter, and butter together—microwaving in 30-second intervals and stirring between each until smooth. Stir in the Rice Krispies cereal.
  • Pour the chocolate-peanut butter-cereal mixture evenly over the hot brownies. Refrigerate for at least 2 hours before slicing into squares and serving.

Mr. How Sweet declared them healthy because they contain peanuts for protein and “good fat,” and because the back of the Rice Krispies box says the cereal is a “healthy snack.”

I love the way he thinks.
