I might have done something terrible.

And by terrible, I mean really, really fantastic.

I’m torn. Did I commit sacrilege by tossing a slice of pie into a blender, or did I invent the most amazing treat to ever appear in my kitchen? Honestly, you decide.

That’s a bold claim. It’s wild to call any dessert my “greatest,” given how many I create, but this one truly surprised me for a simple reason:

It made me fall in love with pie.
Yes—this shake converted me. You’d expect the pie to seduce the shake, not the other way around, but that’s exactly what happened.

I’m oddly particular about berry seeds. I adore fruit—always have—and I’d happily eat it at every meal. Fruit is where my sweet tooth began. But berry seeds in my teeth? That’s another story. I don’t mind seeds that pop in figs or the texture of quinoa, but berry seeds feel like they disappear and then reappear later to annoy you.

My mom has been obsessed with berry pies lately, and over the Fourth of July weekend we had a ridiculous number of them. I barely touched the pie at first—pie isn’t my usual temptation and the seeds put me off—but I did sneak a bite or two. Then the leftovers started stacking up and an idea flashed through my head: what if I just threw a slice straight into the blender?

No elaborate re-creation, no tinkering with separate components. Just pie, ice cream, milk, blend. One slice into the blender—done.

I took one sip and was stunned. The pie filling brings bright, fruity sweetness while the crust melts into the shake and adds a cookie-like depth and a hint of nutmeg. The combination gives the milkshake a cookie-dough vibe, and then, of course, I had to taste the pie again. It was irresistible.
Not content with the pure simplicity, I made a quick chocolate ganache, stirred in some black raspberries, and smoothed it inside the glass and around the rim. I sprinkled graham cracker crumbs on the ganache and crowned each glass with an extra piece of pie. The result: decadent, over-the-top, and utterly addictive.

More pie is always the answer. From now on, when in doubt: add more pie.

- graham cracker crumbs for sprinkling
- 1 slice of black raspberry pie
- 1 pint vanilla ice cream

Let sit for 30 seconds, then stir until smooth. Stir in the black raspberries and any released juice until fully combined.
-
Spread some of the chocolate fudge inside and around the rim of your serving glasses. Sprinkle graham cracker crumbs over the fudge.
