Welcome to my newest obsession.

Spicy pineapple wedges that might make your brain explode!

And your taste buds — in the best way possible.

Start with the sweetest, juiciest pineapple you can find. The honey is infused with jalapeño for heat, a light sprinkle of smoked paprika adds depth, and crumbly feta brings a tangy, savory finish. The contrast of sweet, spicy, smoky and salty is unexpectedly perfect.

On that plate is everything I didn’t know I needed.

This hot honey is my take on a classic: I used jalapeños because they were what I had on hand. If you prefer a different pepper, use what you like — but jalapeños give a clear, lively kick without being overwhelming.

A few weeks ago I spotted a similar idea and tried it as written. It was good, but I wanted a touch more sweetness to balance the heat, and a hint of smoked paprika to round everything out. That small tweak made it pop for me.

This recipe is embarrassingly simple, which is part of the appeal. It’s quick to prep, travels well to a party, and feels delightfully different from usual finger foods — neat, even.

Yes, neat. It’s the right word.

It works as an appetizer, a party snack, or even a light dessert if you’re open to fruit served with a savory twist. I’ve long resisted calling fruit a dessert in the traditional sense, but this one might change my mind — just this once.

Ingredients

  • 1/2 cup honey

Instructions

  • Heat the honey and the sliced jalapeño in a small saucepan over medium-low heat until it comes to a light simmer. Remove from heat and let the mixture steep for 5 minutes. Strain through a fine mesh sieve to remove peppers and seeds, reserving the infused honey.

p.s. If you want to take it further, grill the pineapple for a smoky, caramelized finish. Ooooh yes.
