You deserve a treat.

These margaritas are cold, icy, refreshing and boozy — perfect for a hot day. They’re not the overly sweet, artificial-tasting kind. Instead, they start with a classic margarita base and get a light strawberry note from fresh strawberry simple syrup. The result is bright, balanced and just fruity enough.

The rim is a fun mix of salt and sugar for a salty-sweet contrast. These are best served over ice with lime wedges and fresh strawberry slices for garnish. You can easily make one glass or scale the recipe up to serve a crowd.

Ingredients

  • 2 ounces Grand Marnier
  • 1 1/2 ounces Tequila
  • 2 ounces lime juice
  • 2 1/2 ounces strawberry simple syrup
  • lime + fresh strawberries for garnish
  • salt + sugar for the rim

Instructions

  • Rim the glass with a lime wedge and dip in a mix of margarita salt and sugar (about 3 tablespoons salt to 2 teaspoons sugar). Fill the glass with ice. In a cocktail shaker combine tequila, Grand Marnier, strawberry simple syrup and lime juice with ice. Shake for about 30 seconds, then pour over ice and garnish with lime slices and fresh strawberries.
  • For the strawberry simple syrup: combine equal parts sugar and water, bring to a boil until the sugar dissolves, then let cool completely. In a blender combine 1 cup simple syrup with 1 1/2 cups sliced strawberries and blend until smooth. If you prefer, strain the mixture through a fine mesh sieve to remove seeds.
  • This recipe scales easily. Add simple syrup a little at a time (about 1/4 cup) and adjust to taste. If making a pitcher, consider using bottled lime juice to save time instead of squeezing many limes.
