I clearly remember my first chocolate-covered strawberry experience.
My mom and I were at the mall—Greengate Mall, for those from Pittsburgh—and we were just about to go up the escalator. I think it was at Horne’s (later Lazarus, then Macy’s), back when department stores had candy counters. There was no one at the counter, but a tray of chocolate-dipped strawberries sat there. My mom got excited and grabbed one for each of us. I couldn’t understand why and initially declined.
She looked at me like I had six heads and insisted it would be the best thing I had ever tasted.
This wasn’t a freshly dipped strawberry — it was one of those fully covered in chocolate, dripping with sugary syrup.
It truly was one of the best things I had ever tasted. I can still picture the syrup trail down my chin as I rode the escalator, and I’ve been hooked ever since.
It’s not a cheap habit, especially when you prefer Godiva, but it’s worth it.
Years later, I tore a page from Better Homes and Gardens while waiting at the doctor’s office. The page showed an array of dipped strawberries—none were chocolate—and that sparked a new kind of obsession.

Is there a better way to enjoy fruit? I believe food should be fun and delicious.
Here are some of my favorite toppings and combinations for strawberries:
Marshmallow cream and peanut butter.

Honey with freshly cracked black pepper.

Marshmallow cream topped with crushed cookies.

Honey combined with orange peel for a bright, citrusy note.

Peanut butter with crushed cookies for crunch and richness.

Yogurt paired with blueberry granola makes a lighter, breakfast-style bite.

Cream cheese frosting with toasted coconut for a decadent, tropical twist.

Make snack time fun and creative—strawberries are a perfect canvas for flavor experiments.

And since strawberries are fruit, you can feel good about enjoying them—especially when they’re topped with something delightful.
So dig in and have fun with your toppings. Happy snacking!
