Cinnamon Sugar Flatbread Crackers Recipe – Crispy Sweet Snacks

One of my fondest childhood memories is eating toast with butter and cinnamon sugar at my grandparents’ house.

That moment cemented my love of all things cinnamon sugar. My grandma had a small cinnamon sugar shaker shaped like a little man that we adored using. These days, I’m perfectly happy sprinkling cinnamon sugar from a bowl.

After making easy cheesy whole wheat crackers and everything flatbreads, I wanted to try a sweeter version. Cinnamon sugar flatbread crackers were the obvious next step, since I hadn’t indulged in something sweet like this in a while.

These crackers are incredibly simple to make — from start to finish in about 20 minutes — and they make a fantastic snack. You can cut them into small squares or longer flatbreads; I prefer the flatbreads because they hold more toppings.

I like adding a bit of butter flavor to these crackers. While it may not be real butter, it brings that comforting taste that makes them feel even more nostalgic. I made a big batch recently and we snacked on them all week.

They’re delicious topped with peanut butter and bananas, jelly, cream cheese, fruit salsa, or even a slice of cheese for a sweet-and-salty combo. Personally, I never do small slices of cheese — the bigger, the better.

Cinnamon Sugar Flatbread Crackers

Makes a batch

  • 1 cup all-purpose flour
  • 3/4 cup whole wheat pastry flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1/2 cup + 2 tablespoons warm water
  • 1/4 cup olive oil
  • 2 tablespoons sugar + 3/4 tablespoon cinnamon for sprinkling

Preheat the oven to 400°F (200°C). In a bowl, combine the flours, baking soda, salt, and cinnamon. Add the warm water and olive oil, mixing until a dough forms, using your hands toward the end. Shape the dough into a ball.

Lightly dust a baking sheet with flour and roll the dough as thin as possible with a rolling pin. Sprinkle the cinnamon-sugar mixture evenly over the surface, then cut into small crackers or longer flatbreads with a pizza cutter or knife. Bake for about 10 minutes, or until golden and crisp. Allow to cool completely before serving.

Next time I make these, I’m thinking of topping a peanut butter cracker with bacon. Sounds like a perfect sweet-and-savory finish.
