Strawberries Without Chocolate: Fresh Fruit Dessert Ideas

I clearly remember my first chocolate-covered strawberry experience.

My mom and I were at the mall—Greengate Mall, for anyone from Pittsburgh—about to step onto the escalator. It was in Hornes (which later became Lazarus, then Macy’s), where department stores still had candy counters. The counter was unattended, but a dish of chocolate sat there. My mom got excited and grabbed one for each of us. I didn’t understand the fuss and even declined it.

She looked at me like I had six heads and insisted it would probably be the best thing I’d ever tasted.

This wasn’t a freshly dipped berry. It was one of those fully coated chocolate strawberries, dripping with sugary syrup.

It really was one of the best things I’d ever tasted. I can still picture the syrup running down my chin as we rode the escalator.

I’ve been hooked ever since.

It’s not a cheap habit, especially when you favor brands like Godiva.

Years later I tore a page from Better Homes and Gardens (yes, Tony Soprano-style) in a doctor’s waiting room. The photo showed an array of dipped strawberries—none of them chocolate.

Another strawberry obsession was born.

Make snack time fun. These toppings turn simple strawberries into memorable treats that work for parties, after-school snacks, or a sweet finish to any meal.

And since these are strawberries, they still count as a healthy choice—packed with vitamins and flavor—so go ahead and indulge.

Enjoy, and let your creativity guide your combinations.
