Summer Fridays Volume 15: New Summer Playlist

summer fridays

It’s our final summer Fridays post of the year. I always look forward to these roundups — they’re a cozy way to wrap up the season and share what I’m eating, making, wearing and loving as summer winds down.

EATING

Right now I’m into my sticky apple cider chicken, which is a perfect balance of sweet and savory. I’ve also been making basil chicken meatballs with couscous for easy weeknight dinners, and these Mediterranean beef bowls have been a staple when I want something hearty but fresh.

DRINKING

I wait all year for September sangria. It’s light, fruity and exactly the right drink for late summer evenings. Pour one over ice, add a few fresh fruit slices and you’ve got instant celebration energy.

MAKING

I made a big batch of apple cider granola — my favorite seasonal flavor. It’s crunchy, spiced just right, and great layered with yogurt or scattered over a bowl of fresh fruit.

BAKING

This apple cider donut cake is a must-bake. It captures all the cozy, spiced flavors of fall in one loaf-style cake that’s perfect for sharing with friends or saving for a slow Sunday breakfast.

CRAVING

I’ve been obsessed with pumpkin scones glazed with espresso icing. They’re tender, subtly spiced and pair beautifully with a strong cup of coffee — ideal for cool mornings and weekend brunches.

GRILLING

Grilling has been a highlight this week. Garlic butter breadsticks are the ultimate picnic side, grilled steak topped with marinated tomatoes makes for a satisfying main, and grilled peaches with burrata are a sweet-savory treat that feels surprisingly elegant.

SNACKING

My go-to snacks lately have been pesto smoked chicken dip and caramelized onion dip — both crowd-pleasers and easy to whip up when guests drop by or when you want something flavorful to nibble with crackers or veg.

PREPPING

Grilled corn enchiladas are my go-to for late-summer prep. They’re a delicious way to use any extra grilled or fresh corn and they reheat beautifully for quick lunches or dinners during a busy week.

LISTENING

I’ve been playing a playlist called “Breakfast in a Nancy Meyers Kitchen” on repeat. It sets a laid-back, warm mood that feels like a slow weekend morning — perfect for easing into fall routines.

READING

I recently downloaded Big Little Truths to my Kindle and I’m looking forward to settling in with it. It feels like the kind of short, thoughtful read that fits well into a coffee break or before bed.

WRITING

This week I shared an exclusive s’mores cookie recipe on my Substack and it’s getting a great response. I also published a piece about 10 small routines that make our life easier—simple habits that add up to less stress and more joy.

WEARING

I’ve been living in the best denim shirt — it’s versatile and comfortable. I’ve been wearing it tied over tanks and dresses, with leggings, or as a lightweight cover-up. This week I paired it with a chocolate-brown tank and neutral pants, and the combo felt polished yet relaxed.

SHARING

I compiled 45 recipes for Labor Day weekend featuring some of my favorite summer dishes. These ideas are great for cookouts, casual gatherings, or a leisurely weekend of cooking and eating with friends and family.

SHOPPING

I’ve been watching the J.Crew Labor Day sale and have a few favorites in my cart: a double-layer cardigan, a ruffle-collar shirt, a beaded necklace in a bright kingfisher tone, slim wide jeans, a navy suede shoulder bag and several roll-neck sweaters. I also love the Cosmo pants — comfortable and flattering for the season.

LOVING

The Rifle Paper Halloween entertaining pieces are always a hit. I reach for their melamine bowls and platters for parties and everyday meals because they’re cute, durable and so easy to use. The ghost-themed notecards are a playful touch my kids adore.

BUYING

My favorite paper goods are on sale this weekend, and I’m stocking up. I use them for gifts and entertaining — they’re perfect for kids and adults. I’m also planning to order a pair of jeans with a short inseam option, which works best for my height and style.

TRYING

I’m looking forward to trying a sparkly gold puzzle this weekend. Puzzle nights are my favorite way to get cozy for fall, especially when paired with snacks and a warm drink.

CELEBRATING

It feels bittersweet to close another season of summer Fridays. I’ve been doing this for nearly a decade and these posts are some of my favorite to write — like catching up with old friends. If you enjoy these updates, I also share a weekly newsletter on Substack and a monthly love letter the rest of the year. Thank you for reading and for being here; your support makes these posts so meaningful.
