You know that episode of Sex and the City where Berger breaks up with Carrie on a post-it?
“I’m sorry. I can’t. Don’t hate me.”
???
Yeah. That one.
Okay, I can almost hear you: “You put cheese in a dessert?” Yes — and not just any cheese, but gorgonzola. I know blue cheese can be polarizing, so if it’s not your thing use goat cheese or feta for a milder tang. The idea is sweet figs balanced by a salty, creamy bite and a crunchy oat crisp.
I’m very much on team blue cheese, and I adore figs. Fresh figs are fleeting where I live, so when I find them I coat them in brown sugar, add a generous crumble of cheese, top with a buttery oat crisp, and bake until the fruit is bubbling and the topping is golden. It’s spoon-after-spoon kind of good.
Can you get behind this combo? Can you set aside any skepticism about my Sex and the City references for long enough to taste it? I hope so—Post-it breakup moment and all.

Ingredients
- 10 figs, quartered and chopped
- 2 tablespoons loosely packed brown sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 4 ounces gorgonzola cheese, crumbled (+ extra for serving if desired)
Crisp
- 2/3 cups old-fashioned oats
- 2/3 cups loosely packed brown sugar
- 1/4 cup flour
- 1/4 teaspoon salt
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 4 tablespoons unsalted butter, room temperature
Instructions
-
Preheat oven to 375°F. Place the figs in a baking dish (a 9-inch pie plate works well). Sprinkle with the brown sugar, salt, and cinnamon, then toss gently to coat. Set aside.
-
In a large bowl, combine oats, brown sugar, flour, salt, and cinnamon. Add the butter and use your hands to crumble it into the oat mixture until it forms coarse crumbs, about 2–3 minutes.
-
Scatter the crumbled gorgonzola over the figs, then top with the oat crisp. Bake for 30–35 minutes, until the topping is golden and the fruit is bubbling. Serve immediately with extra gorgonzola if you like.

I appreciate you so much!
If this sounds over the top, know that I once ate a smoked blue cheese chocolate truffle and declared it the best day of my life. These little indulgences are worth it.
