The concept: hot dogs wrapped in puff pastry with cheddar and blue cheese, baked until golden, then drenched in wing sauce and finished with green onions and cilantro. Serve with ranch for an extra hit of flavor. Crumbly blue cheese on top takes them over the edge.

My ideal buffalo-wing flavor combo always includes wing sauce, sharp cheddar, blue cheese, green onions, cilantro and ranch. Use them all here for the best results.

To make these, I wrap hot dogs in puff pastry squares with a generous pinch of sharp cheddar and crumbled blue cheese, then bake until the pastry is puffed and golden. A drizzle of buffalo sauce afterward brings the heat and tang.

If buffalo isn’t your jam, try my other puff pastry hot dog variation with hot honey mustard for a sweeter, milder option.

This is classic fun food—nostalgic, easy, and crowd-pleasing. Growing up, crescent-roll wrapped hot dogs were a favorite at family gatherings, and these puff pastry versions are a grown-up, upgraded take on that comfort food.

They’re ideal for a party, game day, or play date. Kids love them, and you can control the spice level so everyone enjoys them.

The hot dogs are quick to prepare—cut puff pastry into small squares, wrap, and bake for about 15–20 minutes. That means hot, flaky treats within half an hour.

Tip: use refrigerated puff pastry sheets (the long thin sheet found by pie crusts), not the folded frozen perforated kind. The sheet is easy to cut into squares and wrap around the hot dog.

Ingredients

  • 1 sheet puff pastry, thawed
  • 6 hot dogs
  • 1 large egg + 1 teaspoon water, beaten for egg wash
  • 1 cup freshly grated sharp cheddar cheese
  • cup crumbled blue cheese
  • 1 to 2 tablespoons parmesan cheese
  • buffalo wing sauce, for drizzling
  • 4 green onions, sliced for topping
  • cup chopped fresh cilantro, for topping
  • ranch dressing, for serving

Instructions

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C).
  • Cut the puff pastry sheet into six equal squares: once lengthwise down the center, then divide the length into thirds across to make six pieces.
  • Place a spoonful of grated cheddar and some crumbled blue cheese in the center of a pastry square. Lay a hot dog on top and roll the pastry to enclose it. Drizzle a little buffalo sauce inside or over the wrapped hot dog. Repeat with remaining hot dogs. Arrange them on a parchment-lined baking sheet.
  • Make a few small slits in the top of each pastry to allow steam to escape. Brush all surfaces with the egg wash. Sprinkle with parmesan if desired.
  • Bake for 15–20 minutes, or until the puff pastry is golden and puffed.
  • Remove from the oven and drizzle with more buffalo sauce. Top with sliced green onions, chopped cilantro, and extra crumbled blue cheese. Serve warm with ranch dressing for dipping.
