Oh, how I love strawberry cocktail season!

After returning from the start of my book tour, I didn’t run the washer, unpack, or do grocery shopping. Instead, I recreated a cocktail I enjoyed at The Plaza Champagne Bar so I could share it with you.
This Strawberry Champagne Tequila Fizz is wonderfully bright and refreshing. It uses tequila—making it a fun option for Cinco de Mayo—or any spring gathering when you want something a little different.

I shared pictures on Instagram stories and many of you asked for the recipe, so here it is. The method is very simple: muddle strawberries with a pinch of sugar and tequila to make a sweet strawberry tequila base.

Once the strawberries are broken down, pour that mixture into your glass and top with chilled champagne. A dry or semi-dry champagne works well because the strawberry-tequila blend is sweet.

The final touch is a thin slice of jalapeño dropped into the drink. The seeds add a gentle, scattered heat that lifts the sweetness and makes the cocktail memorable. If you prefer less heat, remove the seeds; for more kick, leave them in.

The only change I made from the version at The Plaza was the glass size—I used a slightly larger glass than theirs, but the proportions remain the same.
