Summer Fridays Vol. 3: Sun-Soaked Looks & Laid-Back Vibes

summer fridays

It’s the first official day of summer and it falls on a Friday—perfect timing. The weekend ahead feels like the true start of summer: patio time, rosé, grilling, and slow, lazy moments with family. After so much rain this month, we haven’t had a single pool day, so I’m savoring the idea of an uninterrupted summer weekend.

FEELING

All the summer feels are here. This is the first full summer weekend we’ll have together as a family, which makes it extra special. I’m excited to sit outside, soak up the sun, and unwind. The last few weeks were wet, so the prospect of warm, sunny days feels like a treat.

EATING

Last weekend I made root beer BBQ ribs—if you haven’t tried them, you’re missing out. They’re perfect with crispy smashed potatoes, parmesan roasted broccoli and a bright summer panzanella. Those sides round out the meal and make it ideal for a relaxed, flavorful weekend dinner.

SIPPING

I’m all about Aperol spritzes right now and can’t get enough. I also love a spicy watermelon sangria when the weather warms up. Rosé remains my go-to—our rosé stash has been a lifesaver for long, sunny afternoons and casual evenings on the patio.

MAKING

I made a batch of lavender mint lemonade to keep on hand for the weekend—it’s refreshing and perfect for warm days. For Sunday dinner, I’m planning a gorgonzola-crusted steak salad, which is rich and delicious but still light enough for summer.

CRAVING

I’m dreaming of a roasted strawberry milkshake topped with pistachio brittle. It’s indulgent and utterly seasonal—exactly the kind of treat I want this time of year.

LOVING

I’m obsessed with my air fryer. It crisps vegetables and snacks in minutes and has quickly become a kitchen favorite. I considered gifting one to family members but went with another appliance instead—now I’m tempted to give them an air fryer too. It truly transforms roasted veg into something special.

READING

I started Summer of ’69 by Elin and I’m only a little way in, but it’s an easy, engaging read so far. Last week I finished Mrs. Everything and loved it—Jennifer Weiner’s writing pulled me in and the story of two sisters stayed with me long after I turned the last page. I’m curious what you’re reading these days.

WRITING

We put together a summer bucket list, even if it’s a bit late. I’ve seen illustrated lists on Instagram that are so inspiring. We kicked things off with strawberry picking last weekend and added a few other family-friendly items. My top three picks would be eating dinner outside once a week, visiting a local winery, and hosting an outdoor movie night with great snacks.

LISTENING

I’ve been playing a flashback Friday playlist on repeat—perfect background music for weekend chores, cooking, or simply relaxing on the patio.

LIVING

I’m wearing a sun visor constantly. I’m serious about sun protection, and this style covers my face comfortably—great for walks and outdoor time. For workouts and sweaty runs, I switch to an adjustable Lululemon visor that stays put and feels great.

WEARING

I picked up a bright dress that’s ideal for summer outings, and I’m eyeing a floral maxi for upcoming warm-weather events. I’m also loving an ultra-comfy sweatshirt that’s perfect for lounging—so cozy it practically doubles as sleepwear.

PLANNING

We’re planning a wedding celebration for a close friend—Lacy got engaged recently, and I’m excited to help. If you have recommendations for local Pittsburgh vendors—hair, makeup, photography, or florals—I’d love to hear them.
