Summer Fridays Vol. 8: Chill Tracks and Beach Vibes Playlist

summer fridays

I wish every summer Friday felt this relaxed.

EATING

I’m repeating my tomato toast — it’s simple and truly that good.

DRINKING

If you haven’t tried the whipped coconut cream cold brew I shared this week, put it on your list. I’ve been craving one ever since; it’s so refreshing. For a cocktail, these watermelon rosé margaritas are a delightful summer treat.

MAKING

We’re driving today, so I prepared a few things for the trip: a big batch of homemade pesto and a large jar of homemade ranch to enjoy while we’re away. I almost made a batch of chipotle caramel Chex mix too — that would have been perfect. We’ll be cooking most nights, so these homemade staples will come in handy.

BAKING

The sesame pretzel focaccia is a dream — try baking it this weekend. Also, I’m posting a step-by-step of my chewy oatmeal chocolate chip zucchini cookies on Instagram this afternoon.

CRAVING

More s’mores. The chocolate chip cookie s’mores bars are over-the-top good.

LISTENING

I’ve been looping our beach vibes playlist — it feels so summery. I’m also catching up on the Michelle Obama Podcast and loving it.

READING

I just started The Last Flight and I’m hooked. I shared what I read in July and my full summer reading list elsewhere on the site. One piece I keep returning to is an incredible essay John Lewis wrote to be published after his death — every read gives me chills.

LOVING

Ally Love’s colorful, upbeat presence has really stuck with me. She’s been my favorite Peloton instructor and following her outside of class has only made me admire her more. She radiates positivity.

SHARING

There’s a new video for my life-changing tomato pie — we made it this week and it reminded me how incredible it is.

WEARING

As I mentioned in my July favorites, I’ve been living in my Freedom Moses slides — I love them. Also, the coconut hydration body oil smells amazing and is deeply moisturizing; it’s my beauty pick for the month.

SHOPPING

Based on your feedback last week, I’ll share my Nordstrom favorites when the sale begins. Many sale items are things I already feature in my monthly favorites, so I’m excited to highlight the best picks.

TRAVELING

We’re heading to Northern Michigan, which feels a little surreal and very lucky. For much of the year we weren’t sure this trip would happen, but our place has been booked since last year and we’re grateful for the change of scenery. The trip is naturally distanced and we drive there, which feels safe. Growing up, our family rarely ate out on those trips — my great-grandparents lived there and every night felt like a home-cooked celebration of summer Michigan produce. This trip will likely feel like a nostalgic, low-key vacation in that way, and I’m looking forward to it.
