I’m sneaking in today to chat about this irresistibly cute and addictive Easter snack mix!

Call it a treat mix or a snack—either way, it’s something you could serve for dessert or snack on nonstop. It’s one of those sweet-and-salty hybrids that’s dangerously easy to eat by the handful.

This mix brings back memories of muddy buddies or puppy chow made with Chex cereal, not because it tastes the same, but because it’s that same comforting, crunchy treat you can’t stop snacking on. I love making mixes like this for holidays or casual get-togethers—friends and family always dig in.
Even though I don’t always crave treats like this myself, I enjoy assembling them for others. The tricky part is that I keep finding myself sneaking handful after handful straight from the pantry.

For some reason, right now I’m fully obsessed—and my favorite bit of the mix might surprise you: the Cheerios. They add a light, slightly tangy crunch that makes the whole mix taste a bit like yogurt-covered pretzels.
Last Easter a friend called this “bunny bait.” Cute, but I never loved that name—it sounded like something you’d feed bunnies, not people. Instead, we call it Easter Bunny Trail Mix, or for a giggle, Easter Bunny TAIL Mix when sharing it with friends.

Why this snack mix works so well
– I toss the entire mix with shredded sweetened coconut. If you love coconut, it adds flavor, texture and a springy look perfect for Easter. It’s optional if coconut isn’t your thing.
– I use a combination of pastel milk chocolate M&M’s and peanut butter speckled egg M&M’s for color and flavor—those egg-shaped peanut butter pieces are especially fun.
– Roasted cashews are a great addition for grown-up crowds, but you can swap them for another nut or leave them out for younger kids.
– The mix can be made a day or two ahead, and it’s wonderfully simple since nothing needs to be baked. It sets up quickly and stores well in an airtight container or resealable bag.

There’s something so satisfying about a slightly trashed-up treat that looks festive and tastes even better.

Ingredients
- 3 cups white chocolate chips
- 1 tablespoon coconut oil (optional)
- 4 cups multigrain Cheerios
- 4 cups rice Chex cereal
- 2 cups pretzel sticks
- 1 cup roasted cashews optional
- 1 9-ounce bag peanut butter M&M eggs
- 1 cup pastel milk chocolate M&M’s
- ½ cup shredded sweetened coconut
- extra white chocolate chips for topping
Instructions
-
Line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Place the white chocolate chips and coconut oil in a microwave-safe bowl. Microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring between each, until melted and smooth.
-
If you don’t have coconut oil, you can skip it. It helps the white chocolate firm up a bit more, but it’s not required.
-
Spread the Cheerios, Chex, pretzel sticks and cashews on the baking sheet and toss gently. Add half of both kinds of M&M’s. Drizzle the melted white chocolate over the mixture and quickly but gently toss everything together so pieces get coated. Sprinkle the remaining M&M’s over the top and toss once more. If desired, finish with shredded coconut and extra white chocolate chips.
-
Allow the mix to set for 20 to 30 minutes. Transfer to a large bowl, jar with a lid, or a resealable plastic bag. It stores well and can be made a day or two ahead.
