Happy summer Fridays! XO
EATING
I’m still deep in a strawberry phase. We haven’t made it to strawberry picking yet, but we’re enjoying locally grown berries and I can’t stop thinking about strawberry focaccia and a strawberry grilled chicken poppyseed salad.
BAKING
Make the strawberry cobbler bars — seriously, run don’t walk. They’re fantastic. The recipe I adapted originally pairs peach and blueberry and comes from The Pretty Dish.
MAKING
For quick lunches I’ve been loving loaded hummus and Havarti sandwiches. They feel so crisp and fresh for summer. I’m also obsessed with tomato confit from Everyday Dinners; it’s pictured above and it’s incredible.
CRAVING
I keep dreaming about sweet cream cold brew fudgesicles. It’s been sweltering here, and those fudgesicles are the perfect treat — I even grabbed some old-fashioned fudgesicles for the kids this week.
GRILLING
Grilled pizza is our go-to right now. I’m craving my grilled steakhouse pizza — it’s so good. I also love grilled watermelon and halloumi skewers with minted basil oil for a refreshing summer side.
DRINKING
I’ve been into whipped coconut cream cold brew lately, even though coffee hasn’t been my favorite during this pregnancy. I’m also excited to make spicy watermelon sangria later this summer.
READING
I’ll be reading Malibu Rising this weekend. I adored The Seven Husbands of Evelyn Hugo, so I’m eager for more from Taylor Jenkins Reid. If you want summer reads, check out my summer reading list for recommendations.
LISTENING
I’ve been listening to my 2021 summer country playlist. Last year’s playlist got me through a tough spring and summer — this year’s has that same warm, feel-good vibe and I’m loving it.
WATCHING
I want to start watching Hacks on HBO. Has anyone seen it yet?
PACKING
I finally packed my hospital bag and ordered some ridiculously comfortable cloud-like pillow slides — they’re ugly but so soft. I’m also obsessed with a Mason Grey robe and I’d love it in black. Other than that, I don’t feel like I’m taking much.
WEARING
Since I’ve never been this pregnant in summer, I needed a swimsuit that actually fits. Ordering up a size didn’t always work, but I found a suit from Aerie that’s soft, stretchy and comfortable in a size up. It should work for the last weeks and after birth. I’ve also been crushing on tie-dye maxi cover-ups for easy pool or beach style.
SHOPPING
I didn’t think I needed much baby gear, but with seven years between babies, a few things are updated. I picked up neutral outfits from Lou Lou & Company, matching favorites from Little Sleepies, and a new DockATot cover (we loved ours with Emilia). I’m also considering a Doona after watching how convenient it’s been for friends. For sleep, we’re sticking with the bassinest — it’s been a favorite for both kids.
