Hello! I’ve got a fantastic healthy snack mix to share that’s perfect for prepping ahead.

This mix is sweet, savory, and satisfyingly crunchy — ideal for weekday snacking or grabbing on the go. It combines nuts, banana chips, coconut, seeds, spices and a touch of syrup so each bite delivers great texture and flavor.

I wanted a portable snack that you can make once and enjoy all week. This isn’t a dip or spread — it’s a prepped, ready-to-eat mix you can portion into bags or containers for busy days.
My friend Lacy discovered a version of this at a local shop and raved about the combination of flavors, so we set out to recreate it at home. The result balances sweet, salty, smoky and earthy notes in every handful.
The dry components include two kinds of nuts — almonds and pecans — but feel free to swap in whatever nuts you prefer. Add crunchy banana chips and large, unsweetened flaked coconut for texture and a touch of natural sweetness. Pepitas, hemp hearts and chia seeds bring extra crunch, nutrition and a pleasant variety of textures. Once the mix is coated, a sprinkle of nutritional yeast adds a subtle umami finish.

The wet ingredients are simple: maple syrup, coconut oil and a splash of liquid aminos (or low-sodium soy sauce/tamari) to give savory depth. Seasonings — cumin, smoked paprika, chili powder and black pepper — round out the mix and work surprisingly well with the banana chips and maple syrup, creating a complex sweet-and-savory profile.

Crunch is the star here. If you crave a crisp bite at snack time, this mix delivers. It’s also satisfying because of the healthy fats and protein from the nuts, coconut oil, hemp hearts and chia seeds. The mix offers a range of textures that keep snacking interesting and filling.
I make a batch on the weekend and portion it into small bags or containers for the week. It travels well, keeps for several days, and is great for mid-afternoon cravings or when you need a quick pick-me-up. If you like, stir in a small handful of dried fruit — cherries or cranberries work well — after baking so they don’t get too sticky.

Ingredients
- 1 cup banana chips
- 1 cup unsweetened flaked coconut
- 3/4 cup whole almonds
- 1/2 cup pecans
- 1/3 cup pepitas
- 3 tablespoons maple syrup
- 1 to 2 tablespoons coconut oil
- 1/2 tablespoon liquid aminos or low-sodium soy sauce/tamari
- 1/2 teaspoon freshly cracked black pepper
- 1/2 teaspoon chili powder
- 1/2 teaspoon smoked paprika
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon cumin
- 1/4 cup hemp hearts
- 1/4 cup chia seeds
- 2 tablespoons nutritional yeast
Instructions
-
Preheat the oven to 325°F (160°C). Line a baking sheet with foil and lightly spray or grease it.
-
On the prepared sheet, combine the banana chips, flaked coconut, almonds and pecans in an even layer.
-
In a small saucepan, warm the maple syrup, coconut oil and liquid aminos/soy sauce with the black pepper, chili powder, smoked paprika, cinnamon and cumin just until the oil melts and the mixture is combined. Pour over the nut and coconut mixture and toss to coat evenly.
-
Sprinkle the hemp hearts and chia seeds over the coated mix and toss gently so they distribute without clumping.
-
Dust the mixture with nutritional yeast and toss lightly again if needed to combine.
-
Bake for 15 minutes, remove and toss, then bake another 15 minutes until golden and fragrant. Remove from the oven, toss once more and let cool completely on the sheet. Break into clusters and portion into bags or containers. If desired, stir in dried fruit such as cherries or cranberries after cooling, or add dark chocolate chunks when serving.
