Hello.

I can’t wait to share this boozy hot chocolate. I sampled more than a few mugs while testing, and now I’m paying the price—totally worth it.

Like many of my ideas this week, this one came from you. Several readers insisted I try marshmallow-flavored vodka in hot chocolate, and I’m so glad they did. The result is rich, comforting and just naughty enough for adults.

I’m grateful for my wise, invisible internet friends.

No long preamble—just make it.
Seriously… GET IT.

Ingredients
- 3 cups whole milk
- 1 1/2 cups cream or half and half
- 1/4 cup cocoa powder (I used Hershey’s Special Dark)
- 4 ounces milk chocolate, chopped
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
- 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
- Pinch of salt
- 4–6 ounces marshmallow vodka, or vanilla/cake/whipped cream vodka
Instructions
- In a large bowl, whisk together the cocoa powder, sugar, cinnamon and salt. In a large saucepan over medium heat, combine the milk and cream and bring to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.
- Stir 2–3 tablespoons of the warm milk into the cocoa mixture to form a smooth paste, then add that back into the saucepan. Reduce heat to low and whisk constantly until the mixture is smooth and hot but not boiling.
- Whisk in the chopped milk chocolate and vanilla until melted and fully incorporated. Remove from heat and stir in vodka to taste, or add vodka to each cup right before serving. Top with marshmallows and whipped cream.
- For Bailey’s marshmallows, follow a marshmallow recipe and substitute Bailey’s for the liquid called for in that recipe.

That image above is the reality of running a food blog—delicious chaos. If you feel like helping with laundry, I won’t argue.
