My dreams are coming true!!

Pink beer.
Okay, hold your horses. And your massive eye roll. Maybe don’t close this tab yet — trust me, it’s worth a try.
If you like watermelon, fruity beer, lemonade in your beer, and icy drinks on hot days — yes, yes, yes and yes.
If that’s you, we are BFFs forever. If not, thanks for tolerating my neon-loving soul.

Since citrusy beers are often mixed with lemonade for a classic shandy, I asked: what if we swap the lemonade for watermelon lemonade?
Who wants plain lemonade when you can have watermelon?
Spoiler: this is basically everything I want in a drink. Yes, I will say it again.

I love this so much.
I’m not a beer snob — my favorites are lighter, fruit-forward beers — but this recipe works with any cold wheat beer you like. The point is the balance of cold beer with bright, fresh watermelon and lemonade.

This combo is incredibly refreshing.
There’s no extra sugar here: I prefer to make fresh watermelon juice (blend and strain) and use that natural sweetness. Depending on the fruit, you may not need anything else.

I used lemonade but added a touch of lime because I’m obsessed with lime. If you prefer lemon only, that’s fine — lime just adds a slightly brighter tang.
Blame margaritas for my lime addiction.
Even if watermelon isn’t your favorite, serve this for the color alone. It’s striking: frosty glasses filled with cold watermelon juice, chilled lemonade, beer, and a lime wedge. You’ll win over guests fast.

Watermelon juice
-
To make fresh watermelon juice, cut the flesh from the rind and add it to a blender or food processor. Blend until smooth, then strain the puree through a fine-mesh sieve into a bowl or measuring cup, pressing with a spoon to extract all the juice. Chill in a sealed container until ready to use.
