‘Tis the season to sip your dessert.

Usually I prefer eating dessert to drinking it, but this white hot chocolate is a welcome exception. I’ve been dreaming about it for years.

I wasn’t always a fan of white chocolate until I tried a warm white chocolate truffle that practically melted on my tongue. The key is using high-quality white chocolate — the kind that melts smoothly and tastes rich. When the chocolate is that good, I’m all in.

To create a luxuriously creamy drink, melt the white chocolate into a warm mixture of milk and cream. I like to infuse the milk with fresh mint leaves for a bright peppermint note, but you can skip the mint if you prefer a straight white chocolate flavor. (My partner calls chocolate and mint “toothpaste,” but I love the combination.)

Chocolate and mint is one of my favorite flavor pairings — right up there with chocolate and peanut butter.

This recipe also adapts well to a slow cooker on a low or warm setting. If using a slow cooker, skip infusing with mint leaves (save a leaf for garnish) and chop the white chocolate finely so it melts evenly. A small slow cooker is perfect for serving this at a holiday gathering; just stir occasionally to keep it smooth.
It’s a decadently rich hot chocolate — almost like liquid mousse — and it reminds me of my slow cooker coconut hot chocolate in terms of indulgence. Totally worth it.

And yes — you can add alcohol if you like. White chocolate liqueur is a natural pairing.
